Im unemployed and search on the net every day and look in the wednesday and saturday age, applying for the jobs that are there jobs like nursery hands, kitchenhands, manufacting jobs ( all not retail ) i send out resumes to buisnesses. my job network member that i have to see keeps telling me im too skiny blah blah blah and that my resume is ruined from too many jobs. so i have low self eistem at the moment and dont visit buisnesses in person, and get so nervous calling them. Are any one else going through the same thing?

Millions of people go through this, and it's sad. It's really hard sometimes due to the economy or what your area is going through. I really want to recommend a few ideas..One thing, go to your local employment office and try to seek assistance finding a job. Log onto monster.com if you have not yet and post your resume' and also look for employers in your area hiring. Also check out craigslist.org sometimes people looking for employees post there as well, doesn't hurt to check.
Next thing you can do is go to a college in your area and see about taking a course toward a career that you can do that has a lot of jobs. Nurses, EMT's, etc and you can become an LVN within 2 years, also an EMT within a year or two, there are quite a few other jobs.. You can also get assistance at some colleges to pay for your education and even get enough money to cover some of your home expenses.
Also, for a job while you are searching there are a couple of online jobs you can most likely get http://liveops.com and http://workathomeagents.com they hire a lot for people to work at home and you can pretty much get a job easy at either one of them as long as you have a pleasing voice and a computer with internet access.
Good luck!

I want to start searching for a new job, but I don't want to cause a huge blow to my attendance by taking off tons of time to interview. Has anyone ever conducted a successful job search without making it obvious at your current job? And how did you schedule the interviews around your work schedule? Thanks in advance for your replies.
Top Answer:
I am not sure what job industry you are in, but when I was looking for a job I used a job search engine and any calls I received from my applications I tried to schedule a phone interview first. Then if I thought I would like the job and I received a call back for an interview I would call in sick. Maybe not the best move, but I am sure there is a reason you are looking for a new job. Now I only had to call in sick twice and of course I tried my best not to make it obvious. I am sure there realized once I put in my two weeks. Don't burn any bridges and definitely try your best to work your last two weeks.
Anyways, I used http://www.jobmatchlive.com to search for jobs, which has a lot of jobs from a bunch of different job boards.
Good Luck!
I saw a job search advice tips article an one of the things it warned about was that you can't really effectively search for work online all the time. IT seems however, that all of the job listings are online. How do I go about finding ones available without being stuck behind my computer?
Top Answer:
The old fashion ways, asking everyone you know to let you know if they hear of openings. Going door to door applying even if they don't have a help wanted sign. Using temp agencies where the job may turn to permanent. Starting your own business to make your own job.

I have been to all the job search website and i can not find any openings. There are a tonnnn of dentist offices in my town and i was wondering if it would be "okay" to go in give them a resume or ask if they are looking for assistant help. Im not sure if thats how you go about looking for a job like this....its not like im trying to go get a job at a local retail store. Orrr is it the same thing?
Top Answer:
I agree that either calling the dental office(s) first and asking if one may complete an application and leave a copy of a resume and cover letter or stopping in and asking for a job application and leaving one's resume and cover letter. Even with retail, where a friend of mine used to work, they still preferred if prospective applicants stayed on the premises and filled out the application rather than leaving and dropping it off. It may help the person to appear a more professional and motivated candidate. The sunday classified ads seem to have the most vacancies listed out any day of the week though not on a holiday weekend such as Thanksgiving or such. It's always a good idea to also follow up after about a week or so to show that one is interested even if getting the disheartening "sorry, we're not hiring" or such :)

I might have to start job searching in a couple of months due to a potential layoff. I haven't been in the job market for several years, and I know there are a ton of new job search websites out there since then. Used to be that Monster was pretty much it! I have a bachelor's and about 20 years experience in the marketing/advertising field. I would appreciate recommendations for professional sites that offer more than just a bunch of entry-level stuff and bogus sales jobs.

If it helps, I am in IT / Business Strategy and have a MBA. Thanks in advance.
